Germany faces problems with food waste

Tons of food in Germany ends up going to waste. The amount of food thrown away in Germany for one year would fill a convoy of trucks between the country and Novosibirsk, Russia, a distance of 4500 km.
Worldwide, 900 million people go hungry. At the same time, 11 million tons of food are thrown away each year in Germany, especially fruits, vegetables and bakery products. This was the result of a survey conducted by the University of Stuttgart for the German ministry. “This result is unbearable. The potential use is not too great,” Aigner said in Berlin when presenting the search result on Tuesday (13/03).
